Description
This is a converted stone barn attached to the owners' traditional Westmorland 17th century farmhouse, well equipped and furnished to a high standard. Upstairs has a spacious kitchen/dining/sitting room with balcony facing south (to take full advantage of the views). Full use of informal gardens with seating, fields and woodland to enjoy for walks with/without dogs. The property is set in an isolated valley with a tumbling rocky stream in the Upper Eden Valley just within the North Pennine Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Kirkby Stephen is a 3m drive, a busy historic market town with plenty of pubs, cafes, restaurants and shops. We offer total peace with excellent walking/wildlife and wildflowers to enjoy right on the doorstep. Red squirrels can be seen regularly from the windows in the Barn. Wainwright's famous Coast-to-Coast walk passes close by. You can be enjoying the views from the Nine Standards within an hour's walk. Numerous other local walking routes and nature reserves are here to explore. Horse riding, golf and fishing is available nearby. Easy car access to the Lake District, Yorkshire Dales and Upper Teesdale for day outings. The Barn has no telephone and only mobile reception outside on the hill end. However, there is internet broadband access via owner's router with a password, but this can be intermittent and slow, but free of charge.
This 4 Star Visit Britain awarded property offers 1 double bedroom and 1 twin bedroom with 1 bathroom and 1 shower room. There is a spacious open plan kitchen/lounge/dining room. |

It’s the magnificent scenery that attracts so many holidaymakers to the Lake District. And you’ll find our holiday cottages in Cumbria and the Lakes are perfectly located to make the most of what is arguably the most beautiful region in England.
The Lake District National Park features stunning scenery of high fells and majestic lakes. This is ideal walking country, particularly over the many hills. The Lake District has the highest hills in England, including Scafell Pike, the country’s highest point. And of course there are the lakes themselves: glorious Windermere, pretty Derwent Water and beautiful Ullswater are just some of the highlights of our Cumbria and the Lakes cottage holidays.
For the historically minded, Cumbria offers a wealth of Celtic monuments, Roman remains, stately homes and ruined abbeys. Carlisle still has some of its ancient walls standing, as well as a Norman castle, and the western part of Hadrian’s Wall is nearby. Other places of interest include Penrith, with its castle and remarkably unchanged market square; Keswick, which was once the centre of pencil manufacturing; the busy market town of Kendal and Cockermouth, Wordsworth’s birthplace
